Quinoa (Pronounced Keen-Wah)

Quinoa is a species of goosefoot herb grown primarily for it's edible seeds.

Ancient in it's origins, this grain is still today and has been for over 5000 years the staple food for millions of people of South America.

Quinoa is grown in the high country of South America with over 1800 varieties available. Not all are produced for export. Quinoa has high yields of amino acids, mineral, proteins and complex starches.

Quinoa has a protein count of 12% to 18% which is very high unlike wheat or rice. It contains a balanced set of essential amino acids, which makes it a complete food. It is a great source of dietary fibre, phosphorus, magnesium and iron.


Banana-Quinoa Muffins
1/2 cup Quinoa Flour, 1/2 cup Quinoa Flakes, 2 Tbsp Honey, 2 tsp Baking Powder, 1 tsp Baking Soda, 1/2 tsp Salt, 2 very ripe bananas, 2 eggs.

Peheat oven to 400 degrees. Mix flour and flakes with dry ingredients. In separate bowl mix together bananas, eggs and honey, add to dry ingredients. Pour into greased muffin tins. Bake 20-25 minutes at 400 degrees. Note fill muffin tins 1/2 full.
